Brake Inspection

Why do you need a brake inspection? The braking system is the most important safety feature for your vehicle. The ability to stop quickly and safely is crucial. Part of the brake system also include the brake pads and brake rotors. The friction and heat that occur every time the brakes are applied can gradually start to shorten the lifespan of these parts. It is required to have periodic replacement of these parts in order to keep the braking system in your vehicle functioning properly. You can help maintain the braking system by going to regular scheduled maintenances.

If you start to hear any unusual noises, there may be an issue with the brakes. The brakes may make noises that range from grinding to squealing, as well as other noises of varying pitches and severity. Anytime you hear an unusual noise from your vehicle, especially from stepping on the brakes, bring it in for inspection immediately. Not only are poor brakes a safety concern, but if they are ignored, it can also do further damage to your vehicle and result in a larger repair bill.

You may notice that the brake light on the dashboard comes on. The brake light typically comes on when the fluid in the reservoir is running low. Worn brake parts or misadjusted brake parts can cause the low fluid in the reservoir. Another reason for any low fluid can be if there is a leak anywhere in the brake system.

The ABS module controls the anti-lock brake system, which is one of the many computer systems in your vehicle. When the ABS light comes on, it is an indication that there is a malfunction somewhere in the ABS system. A diagnostics will be needed in order to determine why the light is on, and what should be done to correct the issue. When the ABS light is on, the system is disabled. The brakes will perform as normal, but the ABS will not function if needed, so it is important to have the issue fixed as soon as possible.

If you notice your vehicle pulling in one direction or the other when the brakes are applied, make sure to bring your vehicle in as soon as possible so we can look at it. This usually means that one side of the vehicle’s brakes are working more efficiently than the other side. This can also cause handling issues when the brakes are applied, and you may lose control of the vehicle. It will also wear one side of the brake out much faster than the other because all the braking power is coming from one side.

If the vehicle shakes or pulsates when the brakes are applied, a brake rotor that has become warped could cause it. This may result in handling issues as well as wearing other parts out prematurely. If the brake rotors have become damaged, chances are the brake pads have worn out completely and will need to be replaced. Brining your vehicle in regularly can help to catch when the brake pads are wearing, which can help prevent a larger repair bill in the future. So let our expects at Dale Feste Automotive do a quick brake inspection and make sure you are safe on the road.
